La femelle a un abdomen plus large et se terminant en pointe. L. 8-11 mm.<br \/>\nCe Syrphe migrateur, tr\u00e8s commun, se rencontre sur les fleurs et les feuilles de avril \u00e0 novembre avec une plus grande abondance en juillet. Il a une pr\u00e9f\u00e9rence pour les fleurs compos\u00e9es jaunes et les ombellif\u00e8res blanches. Les adultes sont de bons pollinisateurs car ils se nourrissent de nectar mais aussi de miellat. Le Syrphe porte-plume a un cycle de reproduction tr\u00e8s court et il peut y avoir jusqu&rsquo;\u00e0 neuf g\u00e9n\u00e9rations par an. Les \u0153ufs sont d\u00e9pos\u00e9s pr\u00e8s des colonies de Pucerons. Les larves aphidiphages (se nourrissant de Pucerons) se d\u00e9veloppent sur de nombreuses plantes.<br \/>\nIl y a environ 16 esp\u00e8ces du genre Sphaerophoria en France.<br \/>\nR\u00e9partition g\u00e9ographique : Afrique du Nord, Europe, Asie jusqu&rsquo;\u00e0 la c\u00f4te Pacifique.
